What is Islam By Mister Kim Is a major Monotheistic religion with 1.6 BILLION followers, making it the second largest religion in the world Christianity Number One 33.2% of World Population Hinduism is at number Three 13.26% of World Population Buddhism at number four 5.84% of the World Theism 14.09% Muhammad was told repeatedly that Allah was the one true and supreme God and that the Arabian people needed to change their ways to live in paradise after death While Muhammad and his close relatives accepted his new faith, the leaders of the trade city, Mecca rejected his message and Muhammad was forced to flee to Medina . Mecca . Medina This famous journey from Mecca to Medina is known as the Hijra In Medina, Muhammad gained a large number of followers known as Muslims, and eventually returned to Mecca in victory after winning many battles After establishing his political power through military force, Muhammad also enforced his religious dominance by destroying many idols, and issuing a tax on foreign worship While Muhammad could not read or write, his followers wrote down many of the teachings he passed through from Allah. This became the sacred text known as the Qur'an Within the Qur'an there are basic rules to follow known as the Five Pillars of Islam Profession of Faith: There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is the messenger of God Charity: Helping the poor or needy people with a small donation of one's income Five Daily Prayers: Prayers throughout the day facing Mecca Fasting: No food or drink in the daytime during the month of Ramadan The Hajj: A pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca at least once in your life Islam was founded in 610 AD when the Angel Gabriel visited a merchant by the name of Muhammad
