& Angie Rossi What causes leukemia cancer?
the goal of the treatment is to return the body to normal (get rid of the leukemia cancer cells), and so after the patients been cured further therapy occurs to make sure the leukemia cancer does not recur, called consolidation therapy. There would be frequent monitoring of the blood cell counts, to watch for relapse. Leukemia cancer is in the blood and forms tissues. What is leukemia cancer ? These are characterized by a large increase in immature white blood cells (blasts) in your circulation (lymphocytic [which is relating to lymphocyte]) and in your bone marrow (myelogenous). Leukemia is caused when the DNA in a white cell gets mutated and that cell starts to divide rapidly, causing the cells that it produces (That have the same DNA by default) to divide rapidly. Also which ends up having to many cells rapidly growing. Leukemia cancer can be caused by radiation. In acute leukemia, the immature cells grow rapidly. In Chronic Leukemia, the cells that are developed are transferred to the tissue but they do not function properly. How is it detected and diagnosed? Fevers and infections that won’t go away During the test if an enlarged spleen, liver or lymph nodes are detected you would have to go to further testing, called a complete blood test. It would find immature blood cells. The test determines that you have leukemia but to determine which type of leukemia you have you would have to go to a health care provider, where they would take samples of your blood marrow by placing a needle into your bone and then placing the cells under a microscope. There they can determine which cell is abnormal and if its you have acute or chronic. As the number of immature cells increases, normal cells are crowded out What are some treatments available and what is their rate of success? Treatment depends on the type of leukemia the patient may have and may be different depending on the patient's age, health and how serious the disease is. The rate of success for surviving is 46% Leukemia is rare; there is only about 44 240 cases per year in the united states The disease is more common in males than in women.
