Transcript of Homeschooling

HOMESCHOOLING PROs Characteristics CONS The most common reason for parents to homeschool
their child is because they think they can give a better
education (Cox 6). Conclusion 1. Deprive the child of important social experiences
2. Isolate students from other social/ racial/ or ethical group
3. Deny students the full range of curriculum experience
4. Be provided by non- certified and unqualified people
5. Not permit effective assessment of academic standards of quality
6. Violate health and safety standards
("Home Schooling" 18) Only 30 years ago, hardly any kids were being home schooled, in the last decade, the U.S. Education Department estimates, about 850,000 of the nation’s 50 million children; ages 5 through 17 were being schooled at home (Cox 2). A Parents Choice -Many homeschooled children come from
urban, two-parent families, with a one-
parent income, and two or more kids (Cox 2)
-Many families that homoschool are white
and well educated (Cox 2)
-Most of the time the educators are
women (Stevens 72) 1. A child can learn at their own pace and when they are ready
2. Use learning styles and approaches that work for the child
3. The child can pursue special interests in depth
4. One-on-one teaching

-The idea of homeschooling has always been a controversial topic since the thought of it began to take rise (Galen & Pitman 52)
-With the thought of homeschooling, one of the biggest debates is socialization (Galen & Pitman 52)
-Until this day people say that homeschooling does not develop enough social skills in children
("Home Schooling" 18)
-The children that are being homeschooled are
being isolated from society
-Home schooling is not as effective as an actual school setting because kids are not acquiring proper social skills and may not receive the education a student their age would be obtaining in a regular school setting The number of United States children being educated at home has nearly tripled in the last ten years (Cox 1).
