Transcript of Japanese Earthquake and Tsunami

Japanese Earthquake and Tsunami Disaster! When the Event Occured The disaster occured on Friday 11th March 2011 How the Event Occured Tokyo sits on the intersection of three continental plates - the Eurasian, Pacific and Philippine Sea plates - which are slowly scraping against each other, building up enormous amounts of pressure. How big was the Earthquake? The Earthquake measured 8.8 on the Richter Scale. How the Tsunami happened The Tsunami happened because the Eathquake was big which caused the Tsunami, and the Earthquake occured under the water! The wave got bigger as it traveled towards land, which caused a lot of buildings, cars, people, ect, to be wiped out with the waves of the water. How Geographers are explaining the event When this type of event happens geographers try to explain it by looking at the *causes*, the *effects* and the *responses*. *Causes* The physical or
human things that occured
to make the event happen.
*Effects* The results of the event. The worst one is death.
*Responses* Who reacted and what they did. This can include local people, the goverments and charities. Meanings If there is an * this means theere is a meaning in the meanings area. Charities helping Japan Some of the charities helping are:-
