Transcript of mercury
Now mercury's atmosphere is thin and made up of hydrogen, helium, oxygen, sodium, potassium and even water vapor. Mercury's surface is made up of 70% metal and 30 % silicate material such as quartz, beryl, garnet, feldspar, mica, and various types of clays. Mercury is the name of a roman god. His greek name is Hermes. He is the messenger god. Interesting facts Mercury rotates on its axis very slowly compared to its orbital period. One rotation on its axis takes 58.6 days/175.97 Earth days. Mercury's equatorial rotational speed is 10.892 km/h. In sidereal days, Mercury rotates every 58.647 days and orbits twice during every 3 rotations.Mercury takes around 88 days to finish one revolution around the sun/87.969 Earth days. Diameter in kilometers Diameter of Mercury is 4879.4 kilometers -Mercury is the innermost planet in the Solar System.
-Mercury’s existence has been known before the third century BC.
- Mercury has a large Iron core which is most likely partially molten.
- Mercury has a very thin atmosphere
-Mercury is the smallest planet and has the smallest tilt.
-Mercury's orbital eccentricity is the largest of all the planets rotating around the sun.
-Since Mercury is so close to the sun, the temperature can be reached to 427 degrees celcius.
-At night, without an atmosphere to hold the heat in, the temperatures drop to -170 degrees celcius.
-Mercury has a very low suface gravity. MERCURY Distance From The Sun Mercury is 57.91 million km away from the sun. It is the closest planet to the sun. THE END By: Hamza, Inaya, Joshua, and Mark The time it takes for mercury to go around the sun once is 88 days. To spin on its axis once it takes 57 days. Mercury's place in the Solar System Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun and the first planet of the solar system. Moons Mercury has no moons or rings because it is too close to the sun. Also the sun's gravity is too strong.
