Binge-watching, also called binge-viewing, is the practice of watching television shows in large chunks, rather than traditional episode by episode format.
Binge-watching as relatively contemporary cultural phenomenon, has become popular with the rise of online media services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime, satellite on demand services such as Sky and Virgin On Demand, as well as illegal means such as streaming or torrenting, and the fall in prices of DVDs and Blu Ray box sets, due to mass production.
In a survey conducted by Netflix in February 2014, 73% of people define binge-watching as “watching between 2-6 episodes of the same TV show in one sitting.”
