Homes such as the ones in the picture above were described in a local Long Beach, California newspaper as three- and four-bedroom luxury homes. They were called California Ranch House.

Folk Music
-American Folk music, which is also known as Americana
- including Bluegrass, country music, gospel, old time music, jug bands, Appalachian folk, blues, and Cajun.
-Folk music led to the development of many other forms of music which are very popular today, including rock and roll, the blues and jazz.

In 1950 a gallon of gas was 18 cents and by 1959 was 25 cents.
Since the gas price was low, a lot people bought cars in that period. In 1950 the average cost of new car was $1,510 and by 1959 was $2,200. Chrysler New Yorker was $4347 and Chevrolet Corvette was $3631 in 1958.
Air plane tickets were also very cheap in 1950s. From New York to Paris in France, one way ride used to be $ 350 which has been adjusted to $2200 in current inflation.

There was a fresh artistic outlook after the World War 2 ended and the artistic world reflected this outlook. Jackson Pollack introduced the Abstract Expressionism
Robert Rauschenberg and Jasper Johns were also famous abstract artists of that time period. They did not want the viewer to rely on what he saw to interpret a painting.
African American artists John T. Biggers, Romare Bearden and Henry Clay Anderson presented a different view of American life.
Books and Literatures:
Authors like Norman Vincent Peale (The Power of Positive Thinking) or Bishop Fulton J. Sheen (Life is Worth Living) indicate power of the individual to control his or her fate.
Science Fiction became more popular with the actual possibility of space travel, Ray Bradbury wrote The Martian Chronicles. Isaac Asimov wrote “I Robot” and other books about worlds to be discovered.
Dwight D. Eisenhower was the 34th president of the United States from 1953-1961. Also a five-star General in the US army during world war 2!

Dwight Eisenhower sign the bill that authorized the Interstate highway system. He justified the project through the Federal Aid Highway Act of 1956 as essential to American Security during the cold war.
President Eisenhower sponsored and signed the civil rights bill of 1957, and it was the first civil right right bill since reconstruction.

Sports: There are a lot sports were popular in the era of 1950s.
However, the most famous sports were Baseball, Basketball, Soccer, and American football

-Baseball: New York teams ruled 50s baseball with the Yankees, Giants and Dodgers.

-Basketball: Chuck Cooper drafted by the Boston Celtics in 1950,
becomes the first black player in the NBA.

-Soccer: Following the end of World War II the game takes center stage in 1950
with the first world cup since 1938 held in Brazil where Uruguay won the world cup again.

-American football: It used to be world cup instead of NFL in that time period.

Hot trends in car: In the decade of 1950s, cars were started getting popular especially in America and Europe. In America, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Ford, Lincoln produced the most cars for public demands. Cadillac Eldorado and Ford Thunderbird were the hottest American cars in that era.
