visuals to understand good policy (trees

trees are good for public health (trees and

the short-term costs do not outweigh long-term benefits, and developers do not reap the long-term benefits and will pass the costs on to buyers. Planners and policy-makers probably know little about trees. Don't assume they do! Policy:
Require rooting volume.
Require shading % after X years in parking lots - don't be deterred by measurement problems, they'll be solved. Enforcement is the issue.
Parking lots can get rooting volume simply by taking one parking stall for a medium tree, 2 connected for large trees. Easy calculation.
Detached sidewalks with minimum 6 foot width (medium trees) and 8 foot for large trees. For children's walking safety and property values.
Require woody plants on stormwater retrofits and adequate rooting volume if no underdrain.
