Transcript of Architecture
"Good architecture remains ageless and beautiful."
The vast majority of Architects complete a bachelor’s or master’s degree in architecture from a university program approved by the Canadian Architectural Certification Board (CACB).
Education and Training
Architects must be very logical and have good time management skills. They must also be able to calculate the costs and expenses and make sure to be on budget. I feel that I think very logically and doing calculations is one of my strong suits.
Works Cited List
first, the architect will meet with the culients and discuss their vision for the structure
then he/she must create a floor plan for what the structure will look like and approximate the costs of the production.
finally, he/she will make a small scale model of the structure and regularly visit the construction site
Technology plays a
big role in architecture as many plans are made using programs which is why having computer skills is a great asset. I am currently taking a computer science course which has helped further my knowledge of technology.
An architect should have an eye for detail and must be inventive, creative and imaginative. A steady hand or good drawing skills arevery helpful in
this field and I feel that I have decent artistic abilities. I am also very precise and I pay
that I do.
I currently have 20 hours of community involvement
I have volunteered at Holland Bloorview Kid's Rehabilitation Hospital
I tutor middle school kids in Math and English
Not related to career but helped me develop communication skills
In the future, I want to volunteer at Habitat for Humanity, where I will assist in the construction of homes, so that I will learn more about the process of building a structure while helping build a new home for a family.

Working hours are typically 9.00am to 5.00pm, Monday to Friday, but there is also the possibility of extra hours, evenings and weekends to meet tight deadlines.
Most part of an architect’s working day will be in an office or studio; however, meetings with clients are frequent and the location will usually be different.
Most firms provide 75-80% health and dental insurance and the vacation time of approximately 3 weeks or more
Architects may sometimes be under stress, due to working long nights and weekends to meet deadlines.
Also, balancing work with free time and family can be challenging if the architect is working extra hours all the time.
Architects also travel regularly to building sites for progress inspections, proposed locations and client meetings.
They may also travel to different cities for meetings
While working in the office, architects will be using electronics along with working with their hands to sketch a plan or to make a small model of the building.
Job is constantly evolving
architects will always be a highly demanded job because urbanization will continue to grow and develop. There are also materials and methods of construction that are constantly being created.
The pay can be very high
after years of experience
You created something
you contributed in creating a structure that will be viewed by millions of people
Self-Employment is a great option for many architects because the pay is usually larger.
The majority of self-employed architects have a great amount of experience.
According to Statistics Canada, approximately 30% of senior architects are self employed.
I will be taking co-op in Grade 11 at an architectural firm
I will see what the day in the life of an architect is like
I will gain so work experience while learning the basic principles of architecture
Starting off, my income will be fairly small but it will increase over the years. Overall, this income bracket will be enough to support the lifestyle that intend to have.
A few years ago, I took an art course
in which one of the assignments was to
sketch a famous building which was when I realized
that I would really enjoy doing this as a job, however there are many other aspects to this career as well.
Referring to my Who Am I? booklets, I am a creator, a doer and an organizer.
My favourite subjects are art and math and I have always been fascinated with both modern and older architecture.
These are all important skills in becoming an architect
After doing this research, I am even more interested in this career and I strongly feel that this is the job for me.
This job would give me a chance to be creative and to implement my own ideas into the construction of a building that will be around for a long time
I can also be involved in the creation of the structures by inspecting the work site from time to time and not only having to be in an office.

Two different careers that have the same undergraduate degree include: landscaping architecture and urban design.
I can also follow other similar career paths in design such as interior design, graphic design or industrial design
There are many careers that are similar or directly related to architecture that I could use my degree if I decide that I don't enjoy architecture.
To be elegible for an internship throgh OAA (Ontario Association of Architects, one must:
have graduated with a professional degree/diploma in architecture from a post-secondary institution; or have sucessfully completed the RAIC Syllabus Program; have received certification of academic qualification from CACB
submit a completed application

*most architects do a three year internship

Urbanization is constantly happening in large cities and towns and new buildings are always being built which is why architects will be needed today and in the future
