Transcript of USE OF OCEAN RESCOURCES

people constantly use ocean resources. This may include food sources, transportation routes and energy sources.
Many people are disturbing the way the ocean environment works by using too much of these ocean resources.
CAUSES
IMPACTS
SOCIAL
How can we manage this issue?
how would managing my issue promote ecological sustainability?
putting limits on the amount of fishing will help to reduce the amount of over-fishing
working with other countries (such as Japan) will try to prevent their negative use with ocean resources
setting up campaigns about the destruction of the ocean due to the overuse of it's resources will raise awareness towards the issue
reducing the water property given to fishermen will hopefully work to lowering the fishing rates
Use of Ocean Resources
What is it?
this is the
overuse of
ocean
resources!
OVERFISHING
Ocean Mining
whaling
ENVIRONMENTAL
ECONOMIC
When people over fish and fish species are
left extinct there are less variety of fish for
people to eat.
Also when fisherman run out of fish or
ocean produce in their area of water,
they want to expand therefore creating
conflict between people.

a good thing is that fishing creates
employment
People overfishing can definitely cause economic issues.
It can leave countries with lots of money for exporting or
jobs or it can leave countries with hardly any money from hardly any fish left.
Eg.
In the 1970’s there was a huge argument between who
would get to fish for the cod, Great Britain or Iceland. Great Britain wanted the right to fish for the cod because they wanted fishing industry jobs and Iceland wanted the cod because it made up 70% of their exports.

a good thing on the other hand is,
people can get jobs involving the ocean.

Whaling is a huge environmental issue because whales are becoming endangered. This is mostly because the Japanese kill whales for a good source of protein from the whale meat and the whale oil was used for candles and lighting lamps.
Deep sea Mining also affects the environment because it can easily affect the survival of Marine life and disturb the action of the wood chain.

the fish numbers are kept under control if there is fishing.

Me as an individual
i can buy fish from fisheries that do not over fish
i can make sure that the environment around me is clean (pick up rubbish)
inform people about what harm they are doing to the environment
groups of people
create donation programs through the community
hold events to raise money (e.g. fairs, fun runs etc.)
the government
create laws against deep sea mining
work with other countries to prevent whaling
reduce the amount of water property given to fishermen
SAVE ME!
