Determine the correct formulas
Form skeleton equation (unbalanced)
Ex. 1 Chemical:
Fe + O2 -> Fe2O3
Ex. 2 Word:
Iron + Oxygen -> Iron (III) Oxide
(s) = solid state

(l) = liquid state

(g) = gaseous state

(aq) = aqueous, a substance dissolved in water
= yield sign


A substance that increases the rate of reaction by lowering the activation energy barrier; the catalyst is not used up in the reaction
Heat and Platinum are above sign to show catalyst

Find number of atoms of each element
Count a polyatomic ion as a single unit
Balance the elements one at a time using coefficients
Make sure both sides are equal
