Multiplying Fractions

"Multiplying fractions: no big problem,
Top times top over bottom times bottom.
"And don't forget to simplify,
Before it's time to say goodbye"
2. What does 8/17 - 2/3 =?
3. Name 3 different professions, besides a mathematics teacher, that works with fractions in their everyday career?
Question 1:
1/8 + 7/9 =?
Find a common denominator.
Which is 72 because 8 x 9 = 72.
Multiply each fraction's denominator so that it equals 72. (Remember what you do to the denominator you also do to the numerator)
The problem now is 9/72 + 56/72 =?
Add the numerators together, but keep the same denominator.
Question 2:
8/17 - 2/3 =?
Find a common denominator.
Which is 51 because 17 x 3 =51.
Multiply each fraction's denominator so that it equals 51. (Remember what you do to the denominator you also do to the numerator)
The problem is now 24/51 - 34/51 =?
Subtract the numerators, but keep the denominator.
Step 2: Multiply the denominators!
Step 3: Simply!!!
Ex: 4/9 x 1/3 =?
Step 1: 4x1 =
4
Step: 2: 9 x 3 =
27
4/27
1. 5/10 x 3/4 =
3/8
2. 2/3 x 6 =
4
3. 9/5 x 6/5 =
2 4/25
4. 1 1/5 x 2 2/3 =
3 1/5
5. 6/10 x -3/4 =
-9/20
6. -1/3 x -1/4 =
1/12
Were You Right!!!
Step 2: Multiply the fractions!
Step 3: Simplify!
Ex: 4/10 divided by 2/3 =?
Step 1: 3/2
Step 2: 4/10 x 3/2 =
12/20
Step 3:
3/5
1. 2/3 divided by 1/4 =?
2. 3/2 divided by 5/3 =?
3. 1/3 divided by -3/4 =?
4. 1 1/5 divided by 2 2/3 =?
5. -1/2 divided by -4 =?
Were You Right!!!
1. 2/3 divided by 1/4 =
2 2/3
2. 3/2 divided by 5/3 =
9/10
3. 1/3 divided by -3/4 =
-4/9
4. 1 1/5 divided by 2 2/3 =
9/20
5. -1/2 divided by -4 =
1/8
Dividing Fractions
FLIP IT!!!
Because dividing is the opposite of multiplying!
