Summary and Title branch
Mr. White and his son Herbert are playing chess together by the firelight. Mr. White makes quick and risky moves while playing and one of them ends up letting his son win the game no matter how hard Mr. White tries to distract hm. Mrs. White siads that he will win next time, while sharing a knowing glance to his son which Mr. White intercedes. He continues babbling about living so far out and about the visitor that's coming. The doorbell rings the visitor is here.
The 3 wishes of the Third man
When the Sergeant leaves Herbert tells Mr white he should wish for 200 pounds to pay off the house. Mr. White holds up his right hand and makes the wish. He feels the paw move, but his wife saids it could just be a joke. When they all wake up the next morning Herbert goes to work and monkey paw is momentarily forgotten in his absence. later outside they see a peculiar young man fidgeting out side there house. When they ask him what he wants he saids he has knews ferom their sin's work that he is dead. The messenger also adds that as an apology his son's work would like to offer him money.
"How much?" Mr. White asks.
"200 pounds." The monkey Paw.

The firelight flicks back and forth lighting the small living room. In the light Mr. White and his son Herbert White play chess. Mr. White Hands dart over the board playing risky moves and often putting his king in grave danger. Herbert his old son plays more skillfully and mindfully.
The game is hand to hand until, OH NO! Mr. White makes a fatal move. He then tries to distract Herbert. Let's just say IT. DID. NOT. WORK.
"Checkmate" Herbert saids smiling.
Mr White starts to babble about the living so far out.
"It's Okay dear. You'll win next time." Mrs. White saids. Looking up from her knitting. She was sitting next to there playing table, occasionally checking to see how the game was progressing.
"If there will be a next time." Herbert saids rolling his eyes.
Mr. White looks up in time to intercede a knowing smile being shared between his wife and son. He huffs and then stops at the sound of a noise from the door.
If I could
I'd protect you from the sadness in your eyes
Give you courage in a world of compromise
Yes, I would
If I could
I would teach you all the things I never learned
And I'd help you cross the bridges that I burned
Yes, I would

If I could
I would try to shield your innocence from time
But the part of life I gave you isn't mine
I watched you grow
So I could let you go

If I could
I would help you make it through the hungry years
But I know that I can never cry your tears
But I would
If I could
Na na, na na na, na na
I miss you, miss you so bad
I don't forget you, oh it's so sad
I hope you can hear me
I remember it clearly

The day you slipped away
Was the day I found it won't be the same

Na na na na na na na

I didn't get around to kiss you
Goodbye on the hand
I wish that I could see you again
I know that I can't

I hope you can hear me cause I remember it clearly

The day you slipped away
Was the day I found it won't be the same
How do I,
Get through one night without you?
If I had to live without you,
What kind of life would that be?
Oh, I...
I need you in my arms, need you to hold,
You're my world, my heart, my soul,
If you ever leave,
Baby you would take away everything good in my life,
And tell me now
How do I live without you?
I want to know,
How do I breathe without you?
If you ever go,
How do I ever, ever survive?
How do I, how do I, oh how do I live?
Without you,
There'd be no sun in my sky,
There would be no love in my life,
There'd be no world left for me.
And I,
Sergeant Mager Morris an old friend of Mr. White that had just came back from china is at the door. While talking Mr. White reminds him about The Monkey's Paw Story that he mentioned. Sergeant Morris tells them about it to dispite his own protests. The monkey's paw was made to grant three wishes each to 3 men. When he brings it out to show them Mr. White is Fascinated.
Sergeant Morris tells them that he has already had his 3 wishes as the second man to get it. The first man to have it also had his three wishes, but his last wish was death. Sergeant Morris sudenly throws it inside the fire, but Mr. White stops him just in time. He wants the paw but the sergeant doesn't wany to give it to him saying it is cursed. In the end Mr. White takes the paw and Sergeant Morris is sent on his way leaving the a warning behind.
After the burying their son they mourn for days. Until finaly one night Mrs. White asks why don't they just use the Monkey's Paw. Mr. White exclaims are you mad, but his wifes dicision is final. With thoughts about seeing his mutated son he finds the paw and makes the wish. Later they here a knock on the door.
"My son!" Mrs. White saids and runs down the stairs to open thedoor. Frantic to stop that monster from coming into the house Mr. White searches again for the paw. He makes the wish for his son dead again just as Mrs. White finaly opens the door.
The door opens there is no one there. She brakes down and cries.
Exposition and actors
I chose this title because the Monkey's paw grants three wishes each to three men. Plus Mr White is the third man to be granted three wishes. The entire story sort of circulates around the three wishes he makes, one wish leading to the next.
For three men
Three wishes each
here a monkey's Paw
A lesson to teach
One to the next
Each shall fall
A wish to the next
they shall use all
Until one faithful day
the last one gone
A lesson is left
a paw that was wished upon
No magic left
but the evil tale
of three men
thier wishes failed
If I live
In a time and place
Where you don't want to be
You don't have to walk along this road with me
My yesterday
Won't have to be your way

If I knew
I'd have tried to change the world I brought you to
Through there wasn't very much that I could do
But I still would
If I could

If, if I could
I would try to shield your innocence from time
But the part of life I gave you isn't mine.
I watched you grow
So I could let you go

If I could
I would help you make it through the hungry years
But I know that I can never cry your tears
But I would
If I could

Yes, I would
Yes, I would
If I could
I had my wake up
Won't you wake up
I keep asking why
And I can't take it
It wasn't fake
It happened, you passed by

Now you are gone, now you are gone
There you go, there you go
Somewhere I can't bring you back
Now you are gone, now you are gone
There you go, there you go,
Somewhere you're not coming back

The day you slipped away
Was the day I found it won't be the same no..
The day you slipped away
Was the day that I found it won't be the same oh...

Na na, na na na, na na
I miss you
Baby I don't know what I would do,
I'd be lost if I lost you,
If you ever leave,
Baby you would take away everything real in my life,
And tell me now,
How do I live without you?
I want to know,
How do I breathe without you?
If you ever go,
How do I ever, ever survive?
How do I, how do I, oh how do I live?
Please tell me baby,
How do I go on?
If you ever leave,
Baby you would take away everything,
I need you with me,
Baby don't you know that you're everything,
Good in my life?
And tell me now,
How do I live without you,
I want to know,
How do I breathe without you?
If you ever go,
How do I ever, ever survive?
How do I, how do I, oh how do I live?
How do I live without you?
How do I live without you baby?
The Reason I chose each of these songs:
If I could - Regina Belle
I chose this song beacause since Mrs. White's son is dead wouldn't she be thinking about all the things she could have done with him, if he were still here by her side?
Slipped Away – Avril Lavigne
Herbert just slipped away before she had chance to do anything. That morning they were just laughing over a stupid monkey's paw and next they recieve news that he's dead and she didn't even get to say goodbye.
How Do I Live Without You ~ LeAnn Rimes
Mrs. White doesn't know how to live without Herbert. He was the funny one in the family, and he was her only son. All grown up and having a job. She missed him so much she wanted him back from the dead.
The Exposition is supposed to create a sort of visual picture to the story. Like if you added the way the fire illuminates the room or if you talk about the look between Mrs. White and her son at the beginning of the story. Other ways you can do so is talk about the arrangement around the room. Create a sort of imagery. Starting the story by saying Mr. White and His son Herbert were playing chess and Mr. White lost is a little straight foward. Even for a summary.
The exposition is from the actual story except a quicker version, still descriptive but still less.
In order to create the suspense you can use some dum dum dum dum music or in the way they talk.
Like when Mrs. White saids you will win next time dear, I add Herbert White saying "If there will be a next time." It kind of foshadows his death. Or if instead of saying There was a knock at the door We leave it as "knock knock."
Another way to create suspense is not mentioning the fact that Mr. White was babbling about there being a visitor.
The movie is also supposed to add some humor to their situation.
Sean Connery
Sergeant Major Morris
Hellen Mirren
Mrs. White
Dustin Hoffmin
Mr. White
Jesse Eisenberg
Herbert White
Anton Yelchin
The messenger
The reason I chose these caharacters is because out of the many actors I looked up they were one the only ones that fit the age group I needed. Plus they seemed to fit what they were supposed to look like.
Dustin Hoffman:
75 years old.
Helen Mirren:
67 years old. Not many looked like her or were as old
Jesse Eisenberg:
29 years old. He is around the age the son should be.
Sean Connery:
82 years old.
Anton Yelchin:
23 years old.
This movie will be set in the 21 century. Which is right now...
This will change the story alot. In the short story it takes place in the early 1900s. This is what is suspected because that is when the author wrote the book.
Having it take place closer to our time kind of changes some of the way the movie would run.
For example the Whites live far away from civilization, but in a movie placed in odern times thay would have some visitors. Plus their son had a job. There weren't many jobs in the early 1900s as there are today. So Herbert could a large vareirity of jobs, and a number of ways to have been killed.
In the actual book Herbert died because he was caught in the machinery, but setting it is a different time he could have had a job as a shopworker and had been run over in an accident. Or He could have worked as an assistant baker and gotten severely burned by the oven (He could have fallen in).
When his son died people could have come to vivist him or something and when they heard Mrs. White crying because he sent their son back to dead they could have come tocomfrot her.
The setting is going to be in London
I chose
basically because of the currency and its kind of tranquil appearance.
If I set the currency anywhere in America I would have to change the currency from british pounds to U.S. dollars. It wouldn't have made any sense.
200 british pounds converted over to U.S. dollars would = 315.16 U.S. Dollars. I don't think they would have been that exact.
The same thing would have happened if I used euros. 200 British pounds = 233.68 Euros. Again they would not have been that exact.
Also it might have happened if I used any other. I didn't really want to change much and the way the story went, well it kind of sounded like it would take place in LONDON.
I thought that London would also be a good place because it really doesn't change much in the story, and well it was the first thing that came to my mind.
I could have changed the amount of money but it didn't seem right. I really liked British pounds.
Pictures of London
Extra Scene
The eztra scene that i want to add is a part about what happened after they sent their son back yo the dead.
Mrs. White could have went crazy and have to be locked away in a lunatic aslum.
She might have locked herself in her room with only Mr. White as her eyes in the outside world.
She even might have stayed angry with Mr. White and never talked him again, or just plain died.
Mr. White could have beaten the the dust.
Extra scene
Mrs. White wept and cried with her husbands arms around her. He carried her to bed.
The next day Mrs. White was about to call out to her son, but then she remembered and fainted. She stayed in that room and never saw the light of day again, because only a few minutes later she passed away to see her beloved son again.
Mr. White left with nothing to live for cried and prayed saying to the lord to forgive and a week afetr burying his wife he passed away. A neighbor found him, holding the Monkey paw in his right hand.
The reason I chose this ending is because you wouldn't want such a sad cliff hanger. I didn't want it to end like that, even if the ending I wrote was sad.
The way I shall establish the mood is in two ways. One way is by the words the characters speak as I talked baout before in the Exposition part of my presentation. Sergeant Morris is trying desperatly to warn Mr. White but his efforts end useless. That gived you the idea that something really bad is going to happen.
The second way is by the media. The music you add to a movie changes eveything. from the way the watchers see the movie. When a really big choice is about to be made the music suddenly turns very anxious.
The mood of this movie is very suspensful and eery. Sometimes you don't know what is going to happen next, but the way the author laced his words in the book it gives a very you good idea thaat something bads going to happen before it actualy does.
