Beowulf
Chapter 2
Chapter 3
Prelude
The rulers of the Danes are considered with high regard, as they win their people honor through battle
Scyld Scefing, the ancestor of these Danish rulers, had an unfortunate childhood, resulting in fate repaying him in power, wealth, and fear.
Due to "the heavens" having pity over his people, they sent him a son named Beow (named Beowulf in the prelude) to prevent Scyld from not having an heir .
He eventually becomes the equal of Scyld
When Scyld dies, he is placed on a boat for royalty, with many riches and treasures, and sent into the sea.
