Howdy y'all Senior International Advisor Originally from Amarillo, Texas, Adria Baker got a doctorate in education focusing on sociolinguistic competence of international students, and completed part of her graduate work at the University of Costa Rica on a Rotary Fellow. Her passion is working with international visitors and her greatest joys are time spent with her husband, Ross, and son, Alec. Adria Baker, Ed.D., Executive Director Raised in Anchorage, Alaska, Cory decided for a huge change when she moved to College Station to earn her BA in Literature from Texas A&M University. She loved Texas so much that she decided to stay and work in the immigration field and has worked with F-1, J-1, H-1B, and TN visas during her time at the English Language Institute, the University of Texas Medical Branch and now at Rice. Cory Owen, Senior International Advisor Born in Bogotá, Colombia, Vanessa moved to Houston twelve years ago with her mother and sister. She still misses Colombia very much, but has found a second home in the U.S. She is currently majoring in Spanish Linguistics with a minor in English at the University of Houston and really enjoys learning the intricacies of her language. She has worked in many different areas including retail, restaurants, insurance agencies, and credit companies before coming to join Rice at OISS. Vanessa loves jobs that give her the opportunity to meet great people. Vanessa Uribe, International Department Coordinator Born in Daejeon, South Korea, Su Yeon graduated from Chungnam National University where she majored English Literature and Language. She worked at the Korea Research Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology(KRIBB) as a administrative associate before moving to the United States. Before coming to work at Rice, Su Yeon also worked at an immigration law firm. Su Yeon Yoo, International Administrative Coordinator Growing up in both Brazil and the U.S., Sandra developed a passion for culture and languages. She double majored in International Studies and French, giving her the opportunity to study her two favorite things. After college Sandra moved to California to work in Silicon Valley to gain more technical experience, and later decided to return to Texas to pursue a job in international education. She has been at Rice since 2002, and could not imagine working anywhere else. Sandra Bloem-Curtis, Senior Associate Director Sandra Bloem-Curtis Senior Associate Director Born in the melting pot of New York City, Matt became fascinated with other cultures early on. He went on to earn a BA in International Relations at Brown University and an MA in East Asian Studies at Stanford University, where he studied Japanese anthropology.
