Death Cap Mushroom
Ingestion of one death cap mushroom or Amanita phalloides releases enough powerful toxin to kill a human. (Nardo, 2012) Amanitins are toxins released by the death cap mushroom and are absorbed by the liver causing necrosis to the liver cells. The amanitins also causes tubular necrosis to the kidneys, as the organs attempt to filter out the toxin. (Nardo, 2012) In the eucaryotic cells, the amanitin toxin directly interact with the enzyme RNA polymerase II and decreases transcription of mRNA.(Nardo, 2012) If mRNA is ceased new proteins can not be synthesized and death will occur in the cell.(Nardo, 2012)
