Psychoeducational Therapy
Derived from CBT & Positivity Therapy
Used originally for schizophrenic clients discharging from in patient, also drug recovery & other mental health
CBT: strong PT/Worker relationship, time sensetive, changing behavior through cognitive, questioning, behavior experiments, homework
Positive Therapy: focusing on the positive increases happiness
PE: education on the practical
change of unhealthy/neg emotions
handouts, homework, worksheets
therapist as liaison
education to move client from what to how
Conclusion
I learned...

One new client: met before meeting (open to all alcohol & drugs, no openness) after meeting (open to openness, closed alcohol/drugs a bit)

When a speaker does not give good advice... (BM pushy open, or false facts about closed, older BM with older views)

When a client gets overwhelmed with the adoption process... (difficulty adjusting to new method of parenting)

When the CAF becomes a perfection obsession... (not trusting in God's sovereignty)

When members are viewed as competition...

Difficulty for single PAF (language, less viewed by BP)

Group Eval
Group Eval cont..
Success: people walk away with gratefulness, saying they learned a lot and were encouraged. (i incorporated post-survey)
People comfortably open up their CAF
Many couples request more visits/meetings with pregnancy counselors or case workers (also a negative)
How to modify in the future...
Plan for much more time with families
Give families more time to share
Small groups
Prep the guest speaker
Address single parent needs
change takes time (patience)
meet clients where they are at (swk 101)
group process takes creativity and flexibility which I have
it was difficult for me to work with adults (my concern for how they viewed me and my age)
group personality: open, diverse, honest
