Haitian Revolution
The Haitian Revolution was an anti-slavery and anti-colonial revolt in the French colony known as Saint-Domingue. This event helped eliminate slavery and led to the formation of the Republic of Haiti. Additionally, it was the only slave revolt that led to the founding of a state. The Haitian Revolution is even said to be the most successful slave rebellion between Europe and the Americas. This was the start to end slavery.

Italian and German Unification
The Seven Weeks' War, also known as the Austro-Prussian War, was held with Prussia on one side and Austria, Saxony, Bavaria and other German states on the other. The battles that this war was made up of were located in Germany and Bohemia. One major result of this war was the shift in power among the German states away from the Austrian and towards Prussian states. This war was brought up by the determination of the Prussian statesman Otto von Bismarck, to eliminate Austria from the confederation. In other words, it was a war that was utilized as a way to gain Germany under Prussian leadership and control. Prussia managed to expand it's territory over time.
Recent Movement
The Meiji Restoration was a chain of events that led to the usage of practical imperial rule over Japan in 1868. The Restoration led to huge changes in Japan's political and social structure. The leaders of the Meiji Restoration acted in the name of restoring imperial rule in order to strengthen Japan. This event boosted industrialization in Japan which also led to the advancement of Japanese military power. Industrialization contributed to the making of the national roadway system as well.
The Opium Wars was a conflict between Great Britain and China. The First Opium War began in 1839 and ended in 1842. The Second Opium War began in 1856 and ended in 1860. Great Britain wanted China to accept opium as payment and China refused. Since they could not agree on subjects of trade, this led to the wars between the two countries. China lost the war and they were forced to accept opium as payment. This is important to history because it eventually settled the countries into a better trading system and made it easier for them to trade with other countries as well.

The Industrial Revolution was the transition into new manufacturing processes in the period from about 1760 to the 1840's. Due to this time advancement in history, the Industrial Revolution helped improve the efficiency of water power, increasing the use of steam power, and soon led to the development of machine tools. In several ways, this era of history had a major impact on society and our everyday lives.
