Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, is an anime series that debuted in the Fall of 2002. The anime series follows the government missions of a Japanese SRT Team which specializes in counter terrorism and cyber-warfare.
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex was the entity that first introduced the phrase - "Stand Alone Complex" to the world in the form of the infamous, fictional cyber terrorist known only as ... "The Laughing Man."
All humor aside, a stand alone complex in its simplest form is not complex at all.

Social Activism & Collectivism ...
Pay close attention to the Project Mayhem "social assignments" in this next clip:
Making and selling soap at high prices to wealthy clientele. The Soap is made from human fat stolen from liposuction clinics
Destroying television and radio antennas
Destroying or vandalizing novelty, high priced, or luxury vehicles
Setting fire to corporate offices and blowing out the appropriate windows, emblazoning a smiley face on the side of the building itself
Real life examples of the hacktivist group Anonymous as an active socio-political force:
Habbo Hotel Raid
Operation Payback / Operation Avenge Assange
Occupy Wall St.
V For Vendetta - the real life symbol to a social revolution sparked by the collective imagination of two visionary brothers ...
