Dihedral Definition
An angle which the wing can be set on to make the faster air and slower air to flow simultaneously (In sync) to create more lift.


•Dihedral Angle (
An angle of which the wings can be set on)

Aspect Ratio
(Divide the total wingspan by the average chord width) Our aspect ratio for our final prototype is 5.5:1.)

•Glide Ratio
(The comparison between the distance the glider traveled compared to the height that the glider was launched from.)

•Fuselage (
The complete structure where the wing, tail and rudder are attached to the glider)

(A space usually enclosed in front of the fuselage)

(Wings that are swept more forward and they are swept forward to allow the glider to glide more forward)

•Rudder (
A vertical blade which can turn horizontally to change the direction of the glider)

•Nose (
The nose of the glider) is on the top of the glider where the air first goes off

•Wings (
The wings are the 2 flaps which are put into the fuselage which allow the glider to gain lift in flight)

(A force which projects an object upwards using air pressure)

•Weight (
A force which brings the glider downwards)


(A mechanical force generated by machines in the plane to oppose movement through the air)

(A force that uses a mechanical machine to increase the momentum/speed of the glider)

Why Did The Nose Create Drag?
• The nose was breaking so the air was going through the plane pushing it backwards
Look at the nose!
• The wings were hard to draw
The Change In Forward Swept Wings
Swept Backward Wings:
Wings that are faced backwards.
• The fuselage of the glider is thick so it made the glider heavy so the glider fell in mid-air
• The wings are flat rectangles and not dihedral angles so enough lift was not generated
• There was no airfoil so the glider could not create extra lift
• The glider was made of cardboard which is not a beneficial material to use when it comes to flight
• The gilder was a Biplane so the air passed through the wings and created drag
The wings are pretty small.

• The support beams on the glider were out of place and they were not straight so the wings were not stable

• It is a Biplane made of cardboard so the extra wings only added extra weight

Peacekeeping Missions
The Peacekeeping Missions We Decided To Research About Are:
• Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines
• United Nations Transition Mission In Haiti (UNTMIH)
Canada's Roles In Different Peacekeeping Missions
• Canada is providing food support, medical assistance and, many other helpful services to the Philippines because Typhoon Haiyan hit the Philippines on November 8 2013
Typhoon Haiyan

• After the first two weeks after Typhoon Haiyan hit the Philippines, Canada already put in $20 million to rebuild Philippine’s economy and the country itself
• UN agencies, the international federations of the Red Cross, Red Crescent Societies and non-governmental Canadian organizations also provided food, water, shelter, medical and basic household needs
• Canada also created the T.H.R.F (Typhoon Haiyan Relief Fund) to allow individual Canadians to register their own charities to help fight against this
• Canada also supported the Philippines by deploying the Canadian Red Cross Field Hospital in Ormoc Philippines and donations to three Canadian organizations from the DFTAD

Top Notch Blueprint
• The elevator was too small for the fuselage and the elevator which controls the pitching motion of the aircraft
• There was no Airfoil on the wings which did not allow the glider to gain lift
• The nose was made out of a weak material which created drag
• The comparison between the length of the wingspan and the average chord was too small so the glider stalled and dive bombed.

Forces of Flight Effects
Occurred when we flew Top Notch I on first attempt
The tail was too big so it caused drag while the wind was flowing through the wing than the wind hit the taill and stopped
Occurred when we flew Top Notch II on second attempt
The weather was very windy and needs a lot of thrust to fly well
We threw it with power
The effect made the plane accelerate through the wind and not spin it backward
Occurred when we flew Top Notch II on ALL attempts
The wings were dihedral enough for the air pressure to lift the glider through the wind
The effect on the glider made it tilt side to side when it flew
Occurred when we Top Notch I on ALL attempts
• The plane is basically just cardboard cubes and prisms glued together without and consideration of aerodynamics
The effect was that when we threw the plane, it just hits the ground without flying in mid-air
The Canadian Forces (CF) has released a group of 2000 people from the Army, Navy and Air Forces to provide:
• Search and Rescue
• Medical Care
• Humanitarian Assistance
• Food and Water delivery
The CF has provided 1.6 million meals and 2.6 million litres and medical care for 22, 000 people

Step 5. Create the prototype (draft)
Step 6. Test it (draft)
Step 7. Observe and Identify the problems found (draft)
Step 8. Repeat the process until you have the most efficient product (draft)

When we were reading the Peacekeeping Missions that Canada has accomplished, we saw some text features that helped us to know what we were reading.
Pictures: Gives us a visual of what was happening in the text.
Maps: It helps by telling us where the place was located.
Captions: Helps by describing the picture.
Titles: Informed us and gave us an understanding of what the article or text is going to talk about.
Subtitles: It seperates the text into different parts so there is less confusion.
