What would it be like if the World was a village? With...say...a hundred people.... 60 of us would be asian 14 would be from Africa 12 would be European 8 would be from Latin America 5 would be from the USA and Canada 50 are male 50 are female 33 are christian 80 live in sub-standard housing 34 can't read or write 1 is dying from starvation 50 can't get good food 33 must drink dirty water 39 can't get good sanitation 24 don't have electricity And of the 76 that do, most only use it for light at night 92 can't access the internet 1
has gone to college 5 own 32% of all the money
all 5 are from the United States 48 must live on less than 2$ a day 20 must live on less than 1$ a day 1 is from Australia or New Zealand 14 speak Mandarin Chinese 8 speak Hindu or Urdu 8 speak English 7 speak Spanish 4 speak Arabic 4 speak Russian 22 are Muslim 15 are Hindu 14 are Nonreligious 6 are Buddhist 7 people have Cars, some more than one IN THE VILLAGE THERE ARE... 42 RADIOS 24 TV'S 14 PHONES AND 7 COMPUTERS Now think about this If you woke up this morning healthy ... you are more blessed than the million who will not survive this week.
If you have never experienced the danger of battle, the fear and loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture,
or the pain of starvation ... you are better off than 500 million people in the world.
If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof overhead and a place to sleep ...
you are more comfortable than 75% of the people in this world.
If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish someplace ...
you are among the top 8% of the world's wealthy.
If you can read this, you are more blessed than over two billion people in the world who cannot read at all.
