•Just over half of the population speaks English as mother tongue
•Over half of the population speaks English at home most often
•Under half of the population claimed their mother tongue to not be an official Canadian language- but only a quarter of the population claimed their ethnic tongue to be most often spoken at home
•In 2011, the most commonly spoken mother tongues (other than official languages) were Punjabi and various Chinese dialects (especially Cantonese).

•The top two largest ethnic groups are Caucasian (alike the majority of Canada)
•The next largest are those of East and South-East Asian descent Chinese as a separate group is also very high in numbers
•Fairly culturally diverse with many visible minority groups
•Most groups of Asian heritage or from the U.K.

•Main location for Punjabi culture

•Variety of unique jewelry and fabric shops.

•It is five blocks that remain very prosperous and is one of the city’s largest commercial sections

•Punjabi Market is perfect for Indo-Canadians to reconnect with their culture and with others of the same ethnic group.

•Always busy with exotic cuisine and a bright culture

•Rich in architecture and has a beautiful history

•Annual festivals, parades, and night markets add energy to this already vibrant town. -many attractions such as the Chinese Cultural Centre, and the Sam Kee building ( the narrowest commercial building in the world)



Chinatown

•Weather in Vancouver may not exactly match that of Greece, but the food does its part in holding up Greek tradition

•The center of Greek culture

•This neighbourhood is perfect for stocking up on Greek delicacies.

•Also holds and annual Greek day, an annual festival for the Greek to reconnect with their Greek culture.

•Vancouver is very culturally diverse, many people would not be there if not for globalization.


•The importing and exporting of goods, especially goods that are connected with different ethnicities.


•Without Canada depending on the Chinese for workers to build the railroad, the demographics of Vancouver would not be the same at all.

•Transnationals provide job opportunities for employers
