Transcript of Figurative Language In Music

Figurative Language
Figurative language is language used by writers to produce images in readers' minds. However, figurative language can also be found in music.

To All Of You
"To All Of You" is a song by Syd Matters and shows many examples of similes. One lyric that shows this is "American girls like dollies which shines and smiles in plastic body."
Also by Syd Matters, "Obstacles" shows figurative language in it. One example was the metaphor in "We've been migratory animals living under changing weather."
Counting Sheep
Also presenting a metaphor, Safias "Counting Sheep" says in the lyric "Don't drop the curtains down, darkness is the whole surround." Comparing the darkness to emotions.

Spanish Sahara
The song "Spanish Sahara" was written by Foals and the lyric "As the waves drag you down they carry you to broken ground." Presents a simile comparing the actions of the waves to sadness.
"Colors" written by Halsey shows a metaphor in the lyric "You're ripped at every edge but you're a masterpiece."
Where Is My Mind
In the song "Where Is My Mind" I found personification in the lyric "Way out in the water see it swimming." Because he was talking about his mind and it isn't something that can actually swim.
I Don't Know My Name
"I Don't Know My Name" was written by Grace Vanderwaal and presents a metaphor in the lyric "I'm lost trying to get found in an ocean of people."
Her Last Words
The song "Her Last Words" written by Courtney Parker presents a simile in the lyric "She carried on like a soldier with a battle wound."
"Stutter" by Marianas Trench gives an example of a metaphor in the lyric "Sunshine blinds you if you stare but now I see crystal clear." Because he's comparing the sunshine to his happiness.
The song "Two Birds" was written by Charity Vance and presents many examples of figurative language. One that I found was the metaphor in the lyric "We're the only game I wanna play today and tomorrow."
