The reason that this substance turns into a solid when force is applied and a liquid when force is no applied is because the pressure applied to the substance releases the water from the cornstarch making it a solid. The water settles on top of the cornstarch so when pressure is released the water seeps back into the cornstarch making it liquid again. You can find this out yourself by putting the Oobleck in a bowl and quickly poking the substance with your finger tips. The Oobleck its self will not be on your fingers but droplets of water will be. As the speaker pushes low frequency vibrations through the oobleck it stands up almost as if it were dancing. Sources Sources ..... This project uses a speaker and Oobleck.
Whats Oobleck you ask? Well it is a Non-Newtonian substance, which means that when you apply force to the substance it takes the property of a solid but when little to no force is applied it takes the property of a liquid. Now like i said the experiment
itself uses a speaker. You need to
put plastic wrap over the speaker
and then put your Oobleck in the
speaker cone. Now you would think that the high the frequency that you push through the speaker the more the Oobleck would move due to the fact that a high frequency wave has more vibrations per second. But In this case Oobleck reacts to lower frequencies because they cause more motion in the speaker cone even though the frequency causes less vibrations per second. So in this speaker you will need a song that has alot of bass in it.
