Transcript of Atychiphobia
Fear of Failing. this phobia is considered a specific phobia.
Our society puts so much pressure on people to achieve "perfection" that they build up a lot of anxiety which can lead to Atychiphobia. This happens more with women than it does with males.
Often this phobia is linked to things like demeaning family, or a traumatic event that occurred as a child and resulted in "extreme" embarrassment.
This phobia can effect how someone lives there daily life. If someone has this phobia they won't try anything due to the possibility that they may fail. It can also cause EXTREME anxiety and depression, nausea, the inability to speak and think effectively, rapid heart rate, shaking, and isolation.
It can often be treated with SSRI (Selective Serotonin Re-uptake Inhibitor). A class of compounds typically used for anti-depressants, anxiety, and some personality disorders. It raises levels of serotonin in the brain which impacts a persons anxiety level, making it more manageable.
