Reduce, Reuse, RECYCLE!
Transcript of Reduce, Reuse, RECYCLE!
Reduce, Reuse, RECYCLE!
What's In It
Most coffee shops take money off of your drink order if you bring your own cup!
Most grocery stores offer a small discount for using reusable bags as well!
How Can I Do It Right ?
Paper can be recycled up to 7 times!
2.7 million tons of plastic are recycled every year!
105,784 aluminum cans are recycled every MINUTE!
Aluminum cans are infinitely recyclable!
Glass takes 1,000,000 years to fully decompose, so recycle it! Because it can be infinitely recycled as well :)
It takes 1/10 of the energy to make a glass bottle, compared to a plastic one.
Usage of disposable goods, such as coffee cups and plastic utensils
Remember to use reusable:
Food containers/plates and bowls
Use dishes and silverware rather than disposables!
Wash your dishes & silverware
Bring reusable water bottles
Use lunch bags & coolers rather than plastic grocery bags
Remember your reusable shopping bags when shopping, and choose paper over plastic!
We have single stream recycling! This means we only have to sort landfill trash, from recyclable items.
Make sure everything you put in the bins are clean & recyclable!
How to Recycle!
Look for the recycling symbol, and a number 1-7 inside.
Make sure the paper is not soiled and/or has less than a 2mm layer of wax (i.e. some cartons)
Glass, Aluminum, Tin, Steel
All types of these can be recycled!
CLEAN ALL ITEMS BEFORE RECYCLING!
Want to learn & do more?
If you are caught "green handed" at work, you WILL be rewarded!
27% of materials sent out in single stream recycling ends up in a landfill due to contamination.
Learning about Contamination!
Major food waste- shake food debris or lightly rinse containers.
Making sure no landfill trash gets in the recycle bin.
No paper towels can be recycled! - The fibers are too thin to be recycled and contain bacteria.
(Most grocery stores will take those off your hands, just keep them out of the recycle bin!)
& the biggest violator:
PLASTIC GROCERY BAGS!
What is Acceptable for Paper?
Boxboard: cereal boxes, etc. (free of plastic lining)
Junk mail (plastic window okay)
Used paper towels!!
Dirty paper plates & napkins
What is Acceptable for Commingled Recycling?
Aluminum, steel, and tin
Glass from food & beverage containers, all colors acceptable
Opaque jugs (milk, cider, water, etc.)
Cartons (milk, ice cream)
Creates more jobs
Saves energy & reduces greenhouse gasses
40 Billion pieces of plastic utensils are thrown out every year.
These cannot be reused due to the materials being porous and harboring bacteria.
What Are We
Placing empty toner & ink cartridge bins by printers to recycle via Staples
Unsubscribing from all excess junk mail & faxes
and janitorial services
BOD coffee discs are 100% recyclable
Purchasing rechargeable batteries & chargers for mice & keyboards
C4 + GM$
Just by removing select landfill dumpsters on site and scheduling fewer pick-ups, we are saving about $896.31
That is approximately $10,755.72 savings a year!
To improve the lives of our ecosystems and other generations to come by reducing, reusing, and recycling every chance we get. We do this by Making It Easy, and educating whenever possible.
