No matter what she does to prepare she won't meet up to the guys standards. Her dad is looking out for her and giving her advice but she probably won't listen.

called Love.
Here on your dressing- table
stand arrayed
brave ranks of lipstick
brandishing
swords of cherry pink and flame.
Behold the miniature armies
of little jars,
packed with the scented
dynamite of flowers.
See the dreaded tweezers;
tiny pots
of manufactured moonlight,
stick-on stars.
Beware my sweet;
conquest may seem easy
but you can't compete with football,
motor cycles, cars,
cricket, computer- games,
or a plate of chips.

If you take a look at the poem side ways you will see that it kind of looks like a heart monitor. Since we are talking about love in this poem it would make sense.
Miniature armies of little jars are candles, or all the make-up sitting on her dresser.
War- game means that love is tough just like it's hard to fight in a war.
