Reviewing worldviews
Last week, we checked out why theism is the only consistent, logical worldview on the market. Atheism, agnosticism, pantheism, deism and polytheism all fail to make sense on either scientific or logical grounds.
So who's right?
There are three Theistic religions:

- Judaism
- Christianity
- Islam

A logical God would not reveal Himself in contradictory ways, so only one of these can have the absolute Truth.
The Bible
The collection of books we call the Bible claims to be the "WORD OF GOD". Our faith stands or falls therefore with the trustworthiness of the Bible...

2 Tim 3:16 says
"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness"

Can it live up to this extremely high pressure in the light of close examination? Does it have competition from the Qur'an?
Test #1: Archeology
The Bible is a book of history. If the "Word of God" makes outright mistakes in placing people, locations and events wrongly, we can dismiss it beforehand...
But it never does! Although many many people have tried, they never succeeded in finding fault.

==> In every doubtful case so far, the Bible has been vindicated!

Test # 2: Sources
What if the Bible has unreliable sources? Do we have ancient manuscripts that are written:
- By eyewitnesses? YES
- In a short time span after the events? YES

Test #3: Composition
The Bible consists of:

66 books
written by 40+ different people
in 3 languages
over a time span of almost 2000 years!

=>This excludes fraud, conspiracy or manipulation!
=>The Bible is a unique piece of art that has no competition in its category!
Test # 4: A divine signature!
I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say, 'My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.' (Is 46:10)
Prophecies, types and more!
If we had taken 148 prophecies, we would have needed one such 'bucket' for every atom in the universe for every second since the universe began...
The prophecies are more than enough to authenticate God's Word, but just to make sure we would be 100% convinced...

There are "hidden" types and codes in the Bible that reveal who God is and how He plans to redeem mankind! Some of these are very clear (like the Passover!), others are tucked underneath the text or are revealed in the underlying storyline!

All of this makes a very (and unrefuted!) case that our Bible has its origin outside of our universe!

The Bible
Word of God or Word of man?
Agnosticism defeats itself and tells us there is absolute Truth that can be known.

Pantheism and deism fail logically and scientifically and tell us there is a "Person" behind the universe, not a "Thing".

Polytheism fails because there can't be two or more infinite beings (Occam's razor)

Atheism fails because it cannot account for order, logic, information, morality, laws of nature, consciousness, emotions, abstractions,...

So without even touching the Bible, we have established just by observing the universe that there is a Person behind it who is:

- Eternal (He always existed)
- Creator (He chose to create us)
- Outside of time, space and matter.
- Logical (order and laws of nature reflect His character)
- Faithful (Because He sustains all things every day...)
- All powerful, All knowing and everywhere present
- Self-sustaining (not needing 'energy' like us)
- MULTI-DIMENSIONAL and thus UNKNOWABLE...
Unless!
Unless He reveals Himself to us.
A top 3 of ancient documents:

Author Date written Earliest copy years between #copies accurac
y

Sophocles 496-406 B.C. A.D. 1000 1400 yrs 193 ----

Homer (Iliad) 900 B.C. 400 B.C. 500 yrs 643 95%

New Testament 1st Cent.A.D. 2nd Cent. A.D. <100 yrs (40!) 5600+ 99,5%
(A.D. 50-100 (c. A.D. 130 f.)

Conclusion: If we're not going to accept the New Testament's historicity, then there is NO reason to even accept that Julius Caesar, Alexander the Great, Plato, Aristotle, Socrates, and many other ancient historical figures EVER EXISTED!!!

=>The evidence for Jesus outweighs all the others COMBINED!
Prophecy is the signature of God! He writes history before it happens. In the Bible, there are more than 7000 predictive verses! About 350 of them are what we call 'Messianic prophecies'

Gen 3:15
And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, And you shall bruise him on the heel.

=> God declares war on Satan and promises the coming of One who would restore mankind to their Father! It is the start of a 4000-year long plan of redemption, which God Himself authored by releasing predictions about
- Who this Person would be,
- What He would do,
- How He would die,
- and how He would come back!
Next week: Jesus in the Old Testament...

God authenticated His Word in
spectacular and secret ways!!! Curious?
"And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount."
"We have also a more sure word of prophecy"
2 Peter 1:18-19
Micah 5:2 Born in Bethlehem 1:100 000
Zechariah 9:9 King on a donkey 1:100
Zechariah 11:12 30 pieces of silver 1:1000
Zechariah 11:13 Temple, Potter, 1:100 000
Zechariah 13:6 Wounds in hands 1:1000
Isaiah 53:7 No defence, innocent 1:1000
Isaiah 53:9 Died with the wicked 1:1000
Buried with the rich
Psalm 22:16 Crucified 1:10 000

=> 1:10x28 - 1:10x11 (world population) = 1:10x17
The composite chance = 1:100000000000000000
Micah 5:2 "But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times."
Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
Zech 11:12 I told them, "If you think it best, give me my pay; but if not, keep it." So they paid me thirty pieces of silver.
Zech 11:13 And the LORD said to me, "Throw it to the potter"--the handsome price at which they valued me! So I took the thirty pieces of silver and threw them to the potter at the house of the LORD.
Zech 13:6 If someone asks, 'What are these wounds on your body?' they will answer, 'The wounds I was given at the house of my friends.'
Isaiah 53:7 He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.
Isaiah 53:9 He was assigned a grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, though he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth.
Psalm 22:16 Dogs surround me, a pack of villains encircles me; they pierce my hands and my feet.
If I take 100 EURO coins, color one of them black
and put all of them in a bucket, you'd have a 1:100 chance to pick out the right one.
X 100
But how big a bucket do you
need for 1:10x17?
Texas 60cm deep!
But we've only used 8 out of 350 prophecies!
What if we take another 8 prophecies, assuming no decrease in likelihood? = 1:10x45

How big a bucket do I need now?
1:100 000?
1:100?
1:1000?
1:100 000
1:1000?
1:1000?
1:1000?
1:10 000?
We would need a globe-shaped "bucket" with a radius of 30xEarth!!!
Past
Present
Future
God
A bucket as big as the Earth?
How about 4 Earths, then?
Okay, maybe 9?
