Happy Families The goal of Healthy Familys Are Happy Families is to educate parents and children about the risks of chldhood obsity and ways to prevent and break the unhealthy lifestyle kids and parents tend to fall into.
The Healthy Families program not only looks at ways children can become more active but activies the whole family can do. By changing behaviours, offering encouragement, and working togehter as a family maintainting a healthy lifestyle will be someting children want to do vs. having too do.
Ways to Change Behavior
1 Develop Awareness-
Get your kids involve, talk to them about how active or inactive they are and what they need to change; they'll be more motivated to change old habits if you involve them in the decision-making process.
2 Get your Children to Agrea to the Plan-
Talk often about physical acivity goals with the family to encourage kids to do the things they say they are doing.
3 Set Goals-
Encourage small steps, strive for the goal and look for results. Revise your goals if they are not working for your children.
4 Give Feedback and Praise-
Talk daily to your kids about the activity they did that day, remind them why there doing this and reward the small steps. Ways To Offer Encouragement be a role model by being physically active yourself Make a Physical Activity Chart and use stickers to show what he or she has done during the day Encourage/ enrole your children in sports teams at school or in community programs when the kids ask for a ride somewhere suggest they walk, bike or rollerblade Things That Can Be Done As A Family walk the kids to school
go for a walk after dinner
put on music and dance together
go to the local play ground
play hide and go seek
teach your kids to play sports that they haven't tryed before: lacrosse, tennis, swimming, yoga
go on a treasure hunt
