"Washington has confirmed that yesterday on the 4th of October 1957, the Soviet Union has sucessfully launched history's first man-made satellite into space orbit around the earth."

" Wow" - Homer
"What do you want to know about rockets?" - Quentin
"Everything" - Homer
"It wont fly unless someone pulls the string." - Homer
"Homer I've been confused by you, I've been mad as hell at you, but it's the first time of your life I've been ashamed at you." - John Hickam
"I'll work in the mines." - Homer
"Homer you know what sometimes you really can't listen to what anybody says, you just gotta listen inside."
"You're not supposed to end up in those mines. You know what cause I think you made other plans." - Ms. Riley
"They didn't start that fire Mr. Turner." - Ms. Riley
"No, coal mine is your life it's not mine. I'm never going down there again, I wanna go into space." - Homer
"You did it, I knew you would." - Ms. Riley
"Rocket Boys are going to college, we all got scholarships." - Homer
"You know, it, uh, won't fly unless somebody pushes the button. It's yours, if you want it." - Homer

October Sky: Illustrated Timeline
People from coalwood listens as radio reports about Sputnik's successful launch in space
The Rocket boys and their families watch as Sputnik passes through the night sky.
Homer decides to talk and befriend Quentin, who is called "weirdo" by his peers.
People watched as the Rocket Boys launch their first successful rocket.
Homer and his friends got arrested and accused of causing fire due to one of their rockets.
An accident happened in the mines and John(Homer's father) got injured. Homer decides that he'll work in the mines.
Homer is advised by Ms. Riley to chose what's best for him instead of going to the mines.
Homer proves their innocence and explains to everybody how their rocket aren't the ones that caused the fire.
Homer tells his father that coal mine isn't what he wanted and that he'll continue his dream of making rockets.
Homer shows Ms. riley in the hospital their medal and the news of them going to colleges.
Homer sees his father joining them for the first time and gives him the remote to launch their last rocket "ms Riley".
Quentin congratulates Homer for their most successful rocket as it launches up in the sky.

These moments help Homer realize who he was by not giving up his dream and to continue working on it despite many circumstances against him.
