The Great Northern Expedition of (1733-1741) Vitus Bering contributed to Marine Science by proving that at a certain time the north pole is not completely blocked of by ice leaving passageways. He also discovered Alaska and many different types of algae and other marine life and aquatic plants in the north pacific. He was mapping the arctic circle for Russia and searching for America, he did not find America but he did discover Alaska He explored the Arctic ocean, Siberian coast, and the Bering straight Current Research: A lengthy cruise to the arctic to better understand the causes and consequences of environmental change in the fragile Arctic environment. Who is conducting the research? Russian-American Long-term Census of the Arctic (RUSALCA)
Russian and American scientists are conducting their research in the Arctic ocean and Bering sea. Technology Deployment of instruments in both U.S. and Russian territorial waters. Oceanographic moorings have been deployed, recovered, and redeployed on a regular basis. Conclusion Better understanding of the causes and consequences of the reduction of ice cover in the northern part of the Bering and Chukchi Seas in the Arctic Ocean. More knowledge of the northernmost part of our world. Contributions: Vitus Bering mapped most of the siberian coast, found the arctic passage, and discovered Alaska. (RUSALCA) has established a temperature monitoring system for the arctic area, and gained valuable information about marine and animal life in the Arctic.
