Transcript of Provence

By: Molly Kate Brannock Aix en Provence In the 15th century, Aix was the capitol of Provence.

In Provence, Cathédrale Saint Sauveur (The Cathedral of the Holy Saviour) is a national monument in France. The Romans entered Provence three times before finally capturing it in 2nd century B.C.

They first called it Provincia Nostra, meaning "our province" before it was changed in French to "Provence". Var Var was established while the French Revolution was going on.

It was named after the river Var and is known for its ports. Gap is the capital of the Hautes-Alpes region.

Tourists visit it mainly for its skiing. Hautes-Alpes Painters Many artists paint in Provence.

Nicolas Froment was a painter most known for his painting, Triptych of the Burning Bush.
