Heterogeneous
Homogeneous
A substance that cannot be broken down into simpler substances
*The smallest particle of an element is an atom
A substance that is made from two or more simpler substances and can be broken down into those simpler compounds.
* A compound always contains at two elements

* The substances that make up a compound are always joined in a fixed proportion

* A compound can be broken down into simpler substances
A mixture whose parts are noticeably different from another.
-Anything that has mass and takes up space
In a homogenious mixture, the substances are so evenly distributed that it is difficult to distiguish one substance to another.
- Matter that always has exactly the same composition.
Suspension
-a heterogeneous mixture that separates into layers overtime
Solution
-the result of a homogenous mixture, the results that forms is a solution. The particles disolve in the process and you can see right through it.
Colloids
the result of a homogenous mixture, but like a solution it doesn't separate into layers
Differences
A pure substance will contain only one type of compound, molecule or element.
The properties of a mixture can vary because of the composition isn't fixed
An element is one type of atom, that cannot be broken down. An compound can because it is made up of two or more different types of elements or atoms.
Differences
Differences
In a heterogeneous mixture, the parts are noticeably different, but in homogenous mixture, it is hard to tell.
Differences
In a suspension the heterogeneous mixture separates into layers overtime, unlike a colloid which doesn't separate into different layers. In a solution mixture on the other hand, the particles dissolves
Every sample of a given substance has the same properties because a substance has a fixed, uniform composition
*There are about 100 elements.
