Postmodern Art Rejection of Modern art Postmodern Music Postmodern visual arts Postmodern architecture Rejects harmony and structure A reaction to modern music Does not have a distinct style Rejects the modern artist, and strives for the new Modern "The Family" - A central unit of social order - Model of the middle-class - Nuclear family - Heterosexual norms Premodernism This was the earliest and longest of "modernisms" People with premodern traits are known to be "traditional" Economy It is based on the gathering of natural resources The trade depended on bartering This consisted of trading goods/services/precious metals Craftsmen are big players in the economy They created tools/everyday objects This was the closest thing to "art" Premodern societies weren't structured. Many were nomadic! Family Families played an extremely important role They provided as the chief economic source Social services were provided An example is education; but not the type one you and I know Families were extremely close Religion This was also a large factor in the premodern world Many people believed in a faith/deity As a result, people were
not individually distinct Religious officials also help positions of power Traditions and cultures sustained and were enforced Government The government was very small, and sometimes non-existent A basic government system was in place Power was usually held by the wealthiest family However, government within the family was present.
