Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Accomplishments Martin luther King Junior wasn't always called like this. When all of the family of King went to Germany, King's father decided he would change both his name and his son's name from Michael to Martin. He did this when he found out about Martin Luther a Protestant. He wanted to honor him. Martin Luther portested against the pratcices in religion like paying for being cleared of their sins. Dr. Martin Luther king Jr. became a pastor of a Church in Montgomery in 1954. This church was a baptist one. This organization, or committee, was the most important for African Americans' civil rights in The United States of America. I Have a Dream... Beginning of the Bus Boycott In 1955 a girl known by the name of Claudette Colvin was sitting in a bus when a white man came. He asked for the seat, but she refused to give it to him. Bus Boycott Continues Then the first of December of 1955 Rosa Parks decided not to give her seat, and then she was arrested. This forced Martin Luther King Jr. and Nixon to begin a boycott. This was known as the Montgomery Bus Boycott. This boycott lasted almost a year. White people hated this and decided to throw bombs at Matrin Luther King Jr.'s house. Rosa Parks Bus Boycott Ends Martin Luther King Jr. was then arrested. The speech lasted around 17 minutes and he gave it to end discrimination and segregation. A year later he was given the Nobel Peace Prize. In this speech Martin Luther King Jr. talks about how he wishes his children to play with white kids how he wishes his kids to be treated not for how they look but for how they act and for what they do. Martin Luther King Jr.'s Death In Memphis Martin Luther King Jr. went tto the Lorraine Motel after he gave his last speech I've Been to the Mountaintop.
