Definition: Comedy that portrays the manners and fashions of particular class or set. Comedy Of Manners Most of this genre occurred during the Restoration period. Which ended in the 1700's Comedy of manners is known as high comedy, because it involves high talent and cleverness in writing the script.

There is often minimal physical action in the play. Usually the middle and upper class in society would go see comedy of manners in theater.
Comedy of manner focus on materialistic nature and never ending gossip. The movie Princess Diaries is an example of the Comedy of Manners, because the main character Mia doesn't know she a Princess and then to find out she is and has to learn how to act like one.
