Can lead to or worsen malnutrition

Are caused by dirty water & unhygienic living conditions
the influx of refugees from Mali
Families in Burkina Faso struggle to make ends meet in the face of:
a weak economy
rapidly expanding population
frequent cholera outbreaks
aftermath of the 2011 food crisis in the Sahel region
Will take up to 10 years to fully recover from
Typhoon Haiyan, the most devastating storm ever to hit the Philippines

WE FIGHT HUNGER
WE ARE CREATING A WORLD WITHOUT HUNGER
IN 45 COUNTRIES
THROUGH 4 MAIN PROGRAM AREAS
emergencies responded to in 3 years
people regained economic self-sufficiency
people treated for malnutrition and illness
people accessed safe water and sanitation
people reached worldwide
We treated Prahlad and he is now on
the road to recovery
His mom Rehka sought help at an Action Against Hunger-supported health center
At 2 years old,
he weighed less
than 10 pounds
After Typhoon Haiyan hit in November 2013, we delivered aid to 650,000 people, including those living in coastal villages, remote islands, and isolated mountainous areas
We provided emergency food rations and screened children for malnutrition
To prevent waterborne diseases, we distributed hygiene kits, built latrines, and rebuilt sanitation infrastructure.
We’re now helping people like Luz (shown here) who lost their livelihoods regain their self-sufficiency.
Our teams mobilized after a cholera epidemic hit Juba in May 2014
We disinfected houses, improved water sources,
and held cholera
PUR, which disinfects water, and demonstrated
how to use it
We're still working with local authorities to improve people's access to water
In a village in rural Burkina Faso, many children were malnourished because their diets were poor
We gave them the seeds, tools and training they needed to grow diverse, healthy crops
Now the garden is thriving, producing carrots, lettuce, onions, tomatoes
We helped local women establish and maintain a community garden
