Maisie Manthey Pd. 5 TRANSFORMATIONS Reflections ROTATIONS TRANSLATION DILATION A rotation is when you turn a figure around

a point. It can also be called a turn. A translation is when every point in a figure moves

the same distance in one or two directions within a

plane. It can also be called a slide A dilation changes the size of a figure, but not it's

shape. It may be an enlargement or a reduction. A reflection produces a mirror image of a

figure by flipping it over a line. It is also known as a flip. EX. a b c a c b How Reflections Work: Activities A reflection is almost like a translation, but the shape

isn't slid onto the other side, it is mirrored. Therefore

the points of the shape "change". a b c d b a d c example 2 example 2 how to: http://www.mangahigh.com/en_us/games/transtar http://www.kidsmathgamesonline.com/geometry/transformation.html IN-DEPTH DEFINITION: STILL CONFUSED? http://www.mathsisfun.com/geometry/reflection.html EX. Rotated: 180 degrees What Exactly Is A Rotation: A Rotation is a transformation that turns a figure about a fixed point. Rotation is also called as turn.

The fixed point around which a figure is rotated is called as center of rotation.
