Billy Pilgrim Archetypes in Slaughter-House 5 The Scapegoat Man vs Man Billy is conastantly struggling against
other people who just plain hate
him for things he didn't do or didn't
intend to do Novel by Kurt Vonnegut
Presentation: Stephen Knoll Billy is blamed for the wrongful death
of someone in his prison car, a death
that was obviously not his fault, yet it
leads to his death http://www.thebigbookreview.jki2.co.uk/thebigread/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/slaughterhouse5.png Man vs himself Again Billy is at conflict but
now with himself, with his
visit with the Tralfamadorians
and the knowledge of a 4th
dimension and a different
view on time Billy now knows
everything that is going to
happen to him but doesn't,
or he thinks he cannot, act
out against it for it's bound to happen. http://www.thingamababy.com/images/babynames/pilgrim.jpg Tralfamadorians The Mentors Probably the most unconventional
of mentors the Tralfamadorians
teach Billy about the fourth dimension
and their perception of time and also, the most
interesting is the discussion of free will http://www.elfwood.com/art/g/e/georgepappas/tralfamadore1_copy.jpg Escape from Time A loose fit into this archetype
but Billy does manage to become
"unstuck in time". Birds Not a specific bird but the story
begins and ends with a bird
saying "Poo-too-weet" alluding
to the fact that nothing intelligent
can be said bout war Winter/Cold The entire duration of
the war period in which
Billy is subject to being always cold. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v69/aahhhh/drevil.jpg http://cdn.mashable.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/ya_rly.jpg http://typo.graphr.net/images/owl-nowai.jpg Ok I'm sorry got off topic
