Content Part 1
Eric Thomas- Secrets To Success
Throughout the speech Thomas discusses three secrets in detail: 1. When you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe, then you will be successful. 2. Success is to be able at any moment to sacrifice what you are, for what you will be come. 3. Pain is temporary, eventually it will subside; but if you quit however, it will last forever. Along with these three points, Thomas tells many of his personal experiences, famous stories, and uses quotes from famous people in order to appeal to his audience. The purpose of this speech is to inform and motivate students to do more than just the bare minimum, because it is simply not enough if you want to do great things.
Content Part 2
As Eric Thomas presents, he uses a lot of movement and expressions in order to emphasize his words and get the students to understand what exactly he is saying. While he speaks, he moves in a "T", up and down the aisle and right and left. Because his speech is memorized and his three points are on a little slip of paper, he can move around and be able to engage with his audience. He hits his hands to emphasize specific points. His hand motions mimic a conversation which makes the audience feel like he is talking directly to them. Numerous times he will act out what he is talking about to give the audience a visual representation.

Eric Thomas had a very high volume throughout the speech. Although he is naturally loud, his volume varies. During his speech he did not have a microphone so it was necessary for him to project his voice in order for the audience to hear him. When Thomas tells personal anecdotes and stories, his voice gets quieter. Whenever Thomas is talking about what the audience should do that they do not do, his voice escalates to the point where he was yelling.

Throughout the speech Eric Thomas demonstrates a frustrated tone. The frustration in his voice is derived from the laziness and lack of effort from the this generation to want to be successful. He also appears to be frustrated because he has confidence that the people can be successful if they stop letting distractions get in the way of their achievement and just do what he says. This confidence comes from Thomas to be able to come from nothing and be successful himself. The speaker has the mindset of if he can do it, then he knows they can as well if they just try.
From the beginning Thomas engages with his audience by using one person as a demonstration for the "Guru" story. Afterward, he mentioned successful historical figures, used many quotes from famous people and even talked about his personal background. He explained how his mother kicked him out the house and he was homeless for two years until he went back to school and became successful. He concludes with this to let the audience know that he had to work very hard as well in order to get achieve greater for himself. He also mentioned that to portray the message that if he can do it, you can do it too.
