Sensuality/Physical Beauty
clothes started to expose more skin
The Church would not agree with this
Church Teaching:-1 Corinthians 6:18: "Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body."

-People should dress modestly and respectfully.

People would idolize celebrities and models by wearing everything they wore
The Church would not agree with this
Church Teaching: one of the 10 commandments is : "thou shalt not have any gods before me", by idolizing someone you are putting another "god" before Jesus and that goes against this commandement
People felt like they needed to dress like everyone else in order to fit in
The Church would not agree with this
Everyone who was "up to date" with the latest fashion trends was "cooler and better" than everyone else
The value of acceptance
The Church would not agree with this
Men started wearing business suits again around the mid 2000's
The Church would agree with this
Popularity was important amongst people in the 2000's considering how Acceptance and Power were some of the main values of the 2000's
during the early 2000's women's fashion included sweatpants/uggs while men's included wearing sportswear as everyday clothes
Fashion in the 2000's
-The 2000s fashion are often described as being a "mash-up", where trends saw the fusion of previous styles, global and ethnic clothing, as well as the fashions of numerous music-based subcultures, especially indie pop
-For the most part, the mid-late 2000s did not have one particular style but recycled vintage clothing styles from the 1940s, 1950s, 1960s and 1980s
For many people, the clothes they bought had to be brand name(made by a popular brand/designer)
The Church would not agree with this
Due to the popularity of neon colors, people usually wore their favorite color(s) which helped distinguish them from everyone else and made them stand out in way
Lack of Creativity
A lot of the popular fashions of the 2000's were actually older fashions from the 1950's-1990's with a slight variation
Church Teaching: everyone was made in the image of god, and therefore should not have to dress a certain way in order to feel accepted because everyone is equal
Church Teaching:-Galatians 3:28: "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus."

-Everyone is the same, no one is better then anyone else

Church Teaching:It is good to dress in a sophisticated way because it makes you seem more professional and the more professional you are the better other people think of you
The Church would not agree with this
Church Teaching:-Luke 9:25:"For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself?"
-You shouldnt pretend to be someone/dress like someone that doesn't represent you because what good does it do if you become popular but you loose a sense of self and who you are as a person

The Church would approve of this

Church Teaching:-1 Timothy 2:9-10:“In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.”
- dressing in loose fitting comfortable clothes agrees with this bible quote that says people should dress in modest apparel.
Church Teaching:Valuing materials goes against the church for many reasons. One of which is because that is a form of idolizing, which as mentioned above, goes against one of the 10 commandements.
The Church would not agree with this

Church Teaching: Basically the same as Power/Dominance and Acceptance, we were all made equal and therefore shouldn't try to distinguish ourselves from one another.
The Church would not agree with this

Church Teaching:-Exodus 35:31-32:"And he has filled him with the Spirit of God, with skill, with intelligence, with knowledge, and with all craftsmanship, to devise artistic designs, to work in gold and silver and bronze"
-god gave us all these skills and we should use them to come up with new idea's but instead, for fashion in the 2000's we just built on old fashions over the last 40 or so years
1960s inspired Boho dress.
