Food and Nutrition By: Dan Pyle, Amanda Gluck, and Keon Shaw Nutrients are subtances the body needs to regulate body funtions. Food provides those nutrients to your body. Carbs, Fats, and protiens can all be used by the body as sources of energy. When your body uses the nutrients in foods, a series of chemical reactions happen in the cells. As, a result energy is released. The amount of energy released when nutrients are broken down is measured in units called calories You should eat the number of calories your body needs. Carbohydrates are made of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen simple cards are known as sugars complex carbs are known as sugars that are linked together to form long chains, like beads in a necklace Fiber is a complex carbohydrates found in plants
