Morris/Odachowski - Properties of Light
Transcript of Morris/Odachowski - Properties of Light
Peri Odachowski Light's importance to our UNIVERSE Necessary for plants for the process of photosynthesis through which plants gain their energy. If plants do not get light they will not be able to be used as a food item by the animals and humans as well. It is important for vision since without light we cannot see any object it is a well proven theory that whenever light strikes and object and is then reflected back to our eyes only then the image of the object is created so without light it is not possible to see anything which will always hamper the movements of humans and animals as well.
Light is also used as a source of energy; solar light is stored in solar batteries which could be then used latter on for different purposes. 93,000,000 miles How far away is our sun?? What would happen if there was NO sun?!?! 1) Planets would have no orbit, therefore, they would fly off into space.
2) It would be dark ALL THE TIME.
3) It would be extremely cold.
Therefore, we would die. What is AMBIENT LIGHT?? Ambient light is natural light.
Examples: sun moon fire COMPOSITION OF THe SUN Hydrogen --71%
Helium -- 27%
Oxygen -- .97%
Carbon -- .40%
Nitrogen -- .096% Silicon --.099%
Neon -- .058%
Iron -- .14%
Sulfur -- .040% the LIGHT of the MOON The light of the moon is a reflection of the sun. Having the property of transmitting rays of light through its substance and you can see objects clearly through
them. Able to absorb or reflect all light, but you cannot see objects through them. Having the property to allowing light to pass through, butyou cannot see objects clearly through them. Transparent Opaque Translucent SHADOWS.
How are they related to light's behavior? A shadow is the effect of an object blocking light rays from traveling, so the light rays stream around the edges of the object and traces its form upon a surface. What is the difference between
A FILTER and PIGMENT??????? A FILTER is a transparent material that transmits one or more colors and reflects others. A PIGMENT is a colored material that absorbs some colors and reflects others. The LAW of REFLECTION The law of reflection states that when a ray of light reflects off a surface, the angle of incidence is equal to the angle of reflection. REGULAR Diffused from a smooth surface from a rough surface CONVEX MIRROR CONCAVE MIRROR Reflection allows convex mirrors to allow you to see a larger area, but makes the actual image smaller. Reflection allows concave mirrors to make images larger than they really are, but see a smaller
area. WHat is Refraction? Refraction is the bending of a wave when it enters a medium where it's speed is different. Examples:
Light passing from glass to air and vice versa.
When you look at the front of a fish tank, the fish and the back of the tank appear closer than they really are. THE END!
