He was born April 27th,1822 in Point Pleasant. His parents were Jesse Root Grant and Hanna Grant. He was a Methodist
As a boy he trained horses. His true name is Hiram Ulysses Grant. He has 5 younger brother and sisters.
His college is a military academy. He was a 4 star General. President Lincoln asked him to be in charge of the entire Union Army in the Civil War. He fought in the Mexican and American War under Zachary Taylor.
He married Julia Dent Grant. He was president number 18. The vice president was Schuyler Colfax - Henry Wilson. He was 46 when he was inauguration. He was 46 when he was inauguration
He was buried in New York.President Grant's middle initial "S." is due to a mistake in documentation from a recommendation to West Point. Though Grant tried to correct it, the mistake stayed.
In 1881, Grant entered into an investment partnership with Ferdinand Ward. Ward mismanaged and embezzled Grant's assets. The firm of Ward and Grant went bankrupt and Ward went to jail. This partnership left Grant with hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt. Grant claimed bankruptcy. He was forced to sell his Civil War memoirs to save his family from further financial hardship.
President Ulysses S Grant died of throat cancer in July 23, 1885.
