Transcript of Ocean Biome

Made by, Siddharth and Gurkirat. Ocean Biome Location Climate The pacific ocean which is the largest ocean, is located west of the Americas and is along the edge of Asia. The Arctic ocean is around the north pole. The Indian ocean is below the the Indian subcontinent. The Atlantic ocean is between the Americas, Europe and Africa. The climate generally features warm but not hot water in summer. In the winter the weather is cool but not cold. Plant life There are thousands of plant species that live underwater in lakes and oceans all over the world. Some of the plants need warm waters to live and will only be found in tropical regions. There are more than 250,000 known species of plants even though 4000 plants live underwater. Some underwater plants go on for miles while others stay in small areas. There are four depth zones in the ocean which allow plants to live. The top zone is called the epipelagic zone which is for plants those who need light and warmth. The second zone is the mesopelagic zone it allows very little light in during daytime. The third zone is the bathypelagic zone which includes the lowest depths of the ocean which allows no sunlight. The plants that live in this zone will tend to live in both tropical and Artic climates. The last zone is the benthic zone and is home to a very small number of plants. Animal life Life in the ocean is like a vast area where you can freely move around. The deep sea is dark since the light can't reach deep down but fish that live there live comfortably. Most of the deep sea animals produce light that is easy to see in the dark. The majority of the fish enclose a sell in their body that produces light. However the bad side is most of them are black in color and are easy to spot next to their light, which makes them vulnerable too predators. Most deep aquatic animals need to depend on organic substances that drop from the higher levels, because of that lots of deep sea species are visibly small with large mouths and guts compared to animals from a higher level. Consumer #1 Shark The characteristics of Sharks are that they are ferocious when they attack their prey they also have fins that stabilize them when they go at high speeds .Sharks live in every ocean in the world, they also migrate to different oceans so they are constantly moving. Sharks will eat any type of meat if it is from a small fish or if it is from a big fish, Sharks also consume twice their body weight of food. A few enemies of the sharks are humans, dolphins and Orca Whales even though a shark has a few enemies we are the most dangerous because people kill sharks and then eat them in a soup called shark fin soup. Consumer # 2 Octopus A octopus has the characteristics of a hard beak with a mouth in the center point of its arms. Octopus also have no internal skeleton or external skeleton. Octopus live in many different areas of the ocean including coral reefs, pelgic waters and the ocean floor. Octopus will eat clams, crabs, snails, small fish and other octopi. The predators of octopus are sharks, eels, whales, seals and other octopi as well. Producer: Seaweed The characteristics of Seaweed are that they come in three colors brown, red and green. Seaweed is fed on by fish, seals, turtles and humans.
