As a promoter chapter, the AHS club is different from many other school's Best Buddies programs. Because American Heritage doesn't have a program for students with IDD, we go to a host site called the Schott Community Center to interact with our Buddies.
We expect all of our club members to treat the Buddies with the same
as they would any other friend. As you'll soon discover, the Buddies are individuals in every sense of the word. They lead their own lives and have their own aspirations. Many hold jobs and are in relationships.
We're really more alike than different!
Our Saturday visits to the Schott Community Center usually consist of
-An art activity
-A food project
-An outdoor game
We also have our annual Halloween Party.
Everyone goes all out!

Our plans for this year!
Spread the Word to End the Word
This year we aim to make
Spread the Word to End the Word
a bigger deal at AHS.
The Spread the Word campaign aims to spread awareness about the hurtfulness of the r word 'retard(ed)'. The goal is to create a more accepting and respectful world.
Spread the word to end the word events
should take place in March.
The Schott Communities
event takes place on October 17th. We'd love to see you out there supporting our host site!
Best Buddies Friendship Walk
will take place later on in the year. This will be our largest fundraising effort and one of our biggest events of the year.
is always a great way to end the year! It's like prom for the Best Buddies chapters of South Florida
Many of our meetings will be held to organize Schott visits and brainstorm about fundraising.
It's not all work and no play, though. This year we're going to throw some parties. We want to say thank you for sticking with Best Buddies!
We're even hoping to get in a guest speaker this year.
So that's Best Buddies
in a nutshell
Sure it's a great way to get service hours, but you might just find yourself forging strong friendships in places you wouldn't ordinarily think to look.
If that sounds like something you're interested in you're in the right place!
