*THEY DECIDE TO START TAXING THE COLONISTS
THE SUGAR ACT
*MAIN PURPOSE WAS TO RAISE MONEY FOR THE BR
SEPT 1, 1764
MARCH 22, 1765
*THIS FORCED THE COLONISTS TO HOUSE, FEED AND TAKE CARE OF THE BR SOLDIERS THAT WERE IN THE COLONIES
*PASSED THE TOWNSHEND ACT TO RAISE MONEY THROUGH TAXES
*THEY TAXED ITEMS COMING INTO THE COLONIES SUCH AS:
1. GLASS
2. TEA
3. PAPER
*THIS LEADS TO MAJOR TENSION BETWEEN THE COLONISTS AND THE BRITISH
* THE BRITSH BEGIN BY TAXING THE COLONISTS ON SUGAR
APRIL 5, 1764
*IT SAID THAT LUMBER COULD ONLY BE EXPORTED TO BR
*WHEN IT CAME TO THE COLONIES, THEY WERE ALREADY IN A FRAIL ECONOMIC STATE
* IT PUT A TAX ON GOODS SUCH AS SUGAR, COFFEE, MOLASSES
*THIS HAD A MAJOR NEGATIVE EFFECT ON THE BUSINESSES IN THE COLONIES
*BEGINNING OF COLONISTS BOYCOTT OF BR GOODS
*THIS FORBADE THE COLONISTS FROM PRINTING THEIR OWN MONEY (DIFFERENT THAN BR)AND ALSO LIMITED HOW MUCH THEY COULD PRINT
*THIS MADE IT VERY HARD FOR THE COLONISTS TO PAY BACK THEIR DEBT OR MAKE ANY PROFIT WHEN WORKING WITH THE BR
*THINGS PRINTED IN COLONIES MUST BE MADE ON STAMPED PAPER - MADE IN LONDON
*EX OF THINGS TAXED: MAGAZINES, NEWSPAPERS, LEGAL DOCUMENTS, ETC
*THIS WAS DONE TO FUND THE BR TROOPS THAT WERE IN THE COLONIES
*MAJOR PROBLEM: THE COLONISTS ARE NOT REPRESENTED IN PARLIAMENT BUT THEY GET TAXED?
*LEADS TO MAJOR BOYCOTT OF BR GOODS AND REBELLION AGAINST THE BR

*THEY HAVE TO PAY TO FEED, HOUSE AND TAKE CARE OF THESE SOLDIERS THEMSELVES
*THE BR KEPT THEIR SOLDIERS IN THE COLONIES SO THAT THERE WOULD BE A BR STANDING ARMY VISIBLE IN THE COLONIES - BUT WHY NOW?
