Pop vs. Classical (cont.)
Unlike classical music, pop music uses a similar chord progression throughout the entire song, usually only four or five chords total.
Similar chord progressions are also often used in many different songs as shown by
Axis of Awesome
.
Structure
There are more than fifty chords to be used in a composition, and even more variety in how they can be structured.
There are certain so called "rules" to make a song successful.
They can be broken: but only in the right way.
Pop vs. Classical
"Classical" mainly refers to the Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, and Romantic eras.
"Pop" refers to music after the Romantic era, aka the Modern era.
Thesis Presentation
Over time, much of music in America (though not all) has decreased in quality of structure and effects on listeners as the quantities have grown.
Pop vs. Classical (cont.)
Classical music is composed of complicated structures and interesting chord progressions.
Excerpt from “Für deinen Thron tret’ ich hiermit” by Bach.
