Educational Informatics -
Educational informatics represents the intersection of three disciplines: teaching and learning, information science, and information communication technologies (ICTs and has been defined as,“the study of the application of digital technologies and techniques to the use and communication of information in learning and education”
In 2008, Ford further refined the definition to, “the development, use, and evaluation of digital systems that use pedagogical knowledge to engage in or facilitate resource discovery in order to support learning”
It combines the application of information computing and technology and information management techniques to the field of education and examines the role information communication technologies play in formal and informal learning
As an applied theoretical construct in practice and action research, educational informatics parallels the use of informatics in other fields such as medical informatics, bio-informatics, and health informatics

Some Useful Activities
1. Create a web page and upload personal
profile. (HTML or Google Sites)
2. Visit any public utility
website and download a
material related to any two areas

Information Technology (IT) is the application of computers and telecommunications equipment to store, retrieve, transmit and manipulate data, often in the context of a business or other enterprise.
It's now increasingly utilised in education and research. Gathering information about any topic is now very easy. Ensuring the authenticity of the information passed on to the students can be esured prior to or during the delivery process. The delivered sessions can be preserved for future reference. We can overcome the barriers of time and space in education.
The term is commonly used as a synonym for computers and computer networks, but it also encompasses other information distribution technologies such as television and telephones. Several industries are associated with information technology, such as computer hardware, software, electronics, semiconductors, internet, telecom equipment, e-commerce and computer services.
World Wide Web (www)
The World Wide Web (abbreviated as WWW or W3, commonly known as the web), is a system of interlinked hypertext documents accessed via the Internet.
With a web browser, one can view web pages
that may contain text, images, videos, and other multimedia, and navigate between them
The general concept of a web API (application programming interface) has two main interpretations. It is used to refer to both a server-side API upon a web server as well as client-side API within a web browser.
Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML) is the main markup HyperText Markup Language (HTML) is the main markup language for creating web pages and other information that can be displayed in a web browser.
HTML is written in the form of HTML elements consisting of tags enclosed in angle brackets (like <html>), within the web page content. HTML tags most commonly come in pairs like <h1> and
</h1>, although some tags, known as empty elements, are unpaired, for example <img>.
The first tag in a pair is the start tag, and the second tag is the end tag (they are also called opening tags and closing tags). In between these tags web designers can add text, tags, comments and other types of text-based content.
Technology mediated learning
Meaning of Technology mediated Learning.
E-Learning: -Meaning & Characteristics- moodle
Types of E-Learning: Off-line Learning
(Meaning, Importance), On-line Learning- (Synchronous and Asynchronous),
Use and Importance of Chat, E-mail,
Discussion Forum, e- journals, e-reading and blogs in E – Learning.
Computer Managed Instruction (CMI) and Computer Assisted instruction(CAI)
Eg. Sun Clock / K- Star
Teleconferencing- Audio, Video and Computer mediated- Skype
Role of the Teacher in Technology Mediated Learning
5. Prepare and Submit an Eassignment.
6. Conduct a debate on the topic “ can e- media replace the teacher”
7. Create a group in a social network of your class.
8. Create a blog of your own.
9. Provide hands on experience to the students on practical oriented topics
High-Definition Sun Clock
Sun Clock is a program for Windows to show the local time around the world and the areas of the globe which are in night or day. Sun Clock 7 is available in three editions:
K-Stars is a free, open source, cross-platform Astronomy Software. It provides an accurate graphical simulation of the night sky, from any location on Earth, at any date and time. The display includes upto 100 million stars, 13,000 deep-sky objects, all 8 planets, the Sun and Moon, and thousands of comets and asteroids. In addition, it provides tools to perform many astronomical calculations, an observation planner, and lots of information and resources to help you explore the universe!

10. Provide hands on experience on Audio, video and graphics editing.
11. Prepare a report on an educational programme observed through
Gyan Darsan or ViCTERS.
KompoZer is an open source WYSIWYG HTML editor based on the now-discontinued Nvu editor. KompoZer is maintained as a community-driven fork, and is a project on Sourceforge.
As of June 2013 the current pre-release was KompoZer 0.8 beta 3, released February 2010, using Gecko 1.8.1. The stable version was 0.7.10, released in August 2007. The only regular developer said in June 2011 that development "is stalled at the moment".
