1) To enhance community and department culture, in order to create agents of the psychology program who operate as proud psychology representatives outside of class

2) To promote the culture ideals in the college, as a whole, through integrating disciplines to allow for cooperation in place of competitiveness
The Psychology Logo
As part of the culture project, we have developed a psychology department logo
At first, we held a competition on the white board to design the psychology department logo...
...and we had a winner!
However... it would seem that altering the Castleton logo in any way, shape, or form is illegal and we were forced to start anew. So, defeated, we went back to the drawing board and created an original logo!
Future Plans
Correlate traffic with whiteboard responses
Qualitative analysis on types of questions that elicit high direct responses

Participants: 1,642 Dutch Schools including 78,840 students, 6,230 teachers and 606 members of engagement.
Methods: Students, teachers, and staff were given a questionnaire regarding family, education, and safety, rating level of agreement on a Likert scale
Results: The research suggested that students feel safety when they feel at home.

Roby, D. E. (2011). Teacher leaders impacting school culture. Education, 131(4), 782-790.
Participants: Participants were 195 Pre K-12 Teachers in rural, suburban and urban schools in Ohio.
Methods: A Likert scale was used incorporating 40 statements involving cultural norms. Points were awarded based on observations and perceptions of the participants school culture
Results: The means of all comparison groups fell within the 80- 119 range, which suggests that the relationships and activities are in good terms.Sufficient evidence of many established community norms existed.

Week Three
Effects of diversity experiences on critical thinking skills: Who benefits?
Participants: 4,501 freshmen students from 19 institutions in Iowa and surrounding areas.
Results: Researchers had to estimate first-year growth in critical thinking skills, as well as measure how diversity impacted their growth. It was reported that students attending racial-cultural workshops, had small but statistically significant and positive relationship with first year gains in tested critical thinking skills.

Methods: The Collegiate Assessment of Academic Proficiency test was used to measure critical thinking skills, and ability to clarify, and extend arguments. Another questionnaire test was presented asking demographics. Finally a third Likert scale test was used to ask students how well they felt diversity presented in the classroom.

The Relationship hetween Instructional Leadership
Style and School Culture (Jzmir Case)*
Participants: During the 2005 and 2006 academic surveys were given to 236 teachers in schools across lzmir, Turkey. 165 teachers sent back the surveys and 157 were usable for data collection out of the 236.
Methods: A Likert scale questionnaire was given to participants that uses demographic descriptors and items on instructional leadership and culture.
Results: A positive relationship between instructional leadership and all dimensions of school culture was presented. There was also a strong positive relationship between the three dimensions of instructional leadership and the aspect of school culture.

Resistance to Deficient Organizational Authority: TheImpact of Culture and Connectedness in the Workplace
Participants: Study participants consisted of undergraduate psychology students from two countries: 160 from Poland (42 male, 118 female) and 163 from the U.S. (46 male, 117 female). The sample consisted heavily of evening and weekend students. Consequently, the great majority of participants from both countries had previous employment experience involving at least one workplace manager.
Methods: university students in Poland and in the United States indicated the extent to which they would comply with a supervisor’s request to support an initiative that they felt would be wrongheaded.
Results:Participants were more resistant to a manager who lacked the attribute more valued in their culture: Americans were more resistant to managers perceived as lacking in expertise, whereas Poles were more resistant tomanagers perceived as lacking in relational skills.

Participants: 119 University of Illinois students—35 Northern Anglos composed the dignity group, 34 Asian Americans composed the face group, and 20 Southern Anglos and 30 Latinos composed the honor group. The percentages of females (males) in the dignity, honor, and face groups were 46% (54%), 50% (50%), and 50% (50%).
Method:Participants’ ratings on four film clips made up the endorsement of honor index.Participants indicated their agreement or disagreement with four 7-point Likert scale items that measured their endorsement of the idea that personal worth is inalienable versus socially conferred.
Results: Participants that were offered honorable and respective behavior were more likely to show a similar behavior.

Exploring the national and organizational culture mix in service firms
Method: First a survey was issued to several firms across the U.S. and Japan where then ones that were said to have a wholly-owned subsidiary were selected. Then each respondent was asked to identify three important customers. After assembling the two lists, a customer was chosen at random. Two major buyers at the chosen customer firm were identified, contacted, and asked to report their level of satisfaction with the vendor firm. All agreed and gave usable data.
Results:The main results were that Japan was significantly higher than the U.S. on stability and people, detail, and team orientations and the U.S. was significantly higher than Japan on innovation, outcome orientation, and aggressiveness.

Methods: Groups of six to ten students met each week to participate in activities that were meant to keep the individuals motivated to raise their G.P.A
Participants: Fifty three freshmen students from the University of Alabama with similar demographics and S.E.S.
Participants: There were 58,281 students who participated in the 2006 University of California Undergraduate Experience Survey with varying demographics and S.E.S.
Methods: The study that compared GPA and student-faculty interaction and looked at differences such as gender, race, social class, and first generation status. Surveys were given out and graded on a 7 point Likert scale.
Results: Low income and first generation students were less likely to seek help from professors, less likely to be involved on campus, and also had lower grade point averages.
